Private Hegra at Sunrise

Hegra (Mada'in Salih), AlUla

This is AlUla's defining experience. Hegra — Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site — is one of the ancient world's most extraordinary achievements: 111 Nabataean tombs carved directly into rose-gold sandstone, some over 2,000 years old. We arrange exclusive after-hours access at golden hour, when the light is otherworldly and the site is entirely yours. A private archaeologist guide brings every carving to life. An experience of genuine awe.

Frequently Asked Questions

AlUla — FAQ

When is the best time to visit AlUla?+

October through March is ideal. Daytime temperatures are comfortable (18–26°C), the light for photography is extraordinary, and the Winter at Tantora festival (December–March) brings world-class performances to Maraya. Summers are very hot and most outdoor activities are limited.

How do I get to AlUla from the UK, US, or Australia?+

AlUla Regional Airport (ULH) receives direct flights from Riyadh (1h 30m), Jeddah (1h 20m), and Medina (1h). From the UK and US, fly to Riyadh or Jeddah and connect. Total journey time from London is approximately 8–9 hours. We arrange all domestic connections as part of the booking.

Do I need a visa to visit AlUla, Saudi Arabia?+

Citizens of over 60 countries can obtain a Saudi e-Visa at visitsaudi.com. The tourist visa is valid for 90 days, costs approximately $135, and is typically approved within minutes. No special permit is needed for AlUla specifically.

How many days should I spend in AlUla?+

A minimum of 3 nights is recommended. Four to five nights allows you to cover Hegra, Dadan, Jabal Ikmah, Elephant Rock, Old Town AlUla, and still have time to relax. We recommend combining AlUla with a Red Sea island stay for a complete Saudi luxury experience.

What is Hegra and why is it so special?+

Hegra (Mada'in Salih) is the ancient Nabataean city predating Petra, containing over 100 monumental tombs carved from sandstone cliffs, some over 2,000 years old. It was Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site (2008). Unlike Petra, Hegra has had very limited tourism — visiting now means experiencing one of the ancient world's greatest monuments in near-complete solitude.

What luxury hotels are available in AlUla?+

The two standout options are Banyan Tree AlUla (private desert villas with plunge pools and stargazing terraces) and Habitas AlUla (boutique wellness-focused tented villas). Both fill quickly in peak season — we recommend booking at least 3–4 months in advance.
