Planning Guide

Best Time to Visit Saudi Arabia for Luxury Travel

Saudi Arabia is a year-round destination - but the right time to visit depends entirely on which part of the Kingdom you're planning to explore. The Red Sea resorts are at their best October to May. AlUla runs its full season from November to March. Riyadh and Jeddah are perfectly comfortable October through April. Meanwhile, the Asir highlands - Saudi Arabia's cool mountain region - are genuinely delightful in summer, when the rest of the country is at its hottest. Understanding Saudi Arabia's seasonal patterns is essential for planning a luxury trip that delivers the best of each destination.

Red Sea Resorts: October to May

Red Sea Resorts: October to May

The Red Sea's overwater villa resorts - St. Regis, Nujuma, Shebara - are at their absolute best from October to May. Air temperatures range from 24°C to 34°C, sea conditions are calm and ideal for snorkelling and diving, and the summer heat has passed. Avoid July–August if heat is a concern, though the sea is warmest and resorts are quieter.

AlUla's official luxury season runs November to March - this is when the Winter at Tantora festival operates, all outdoor experiences are available, and daytime temperatures are perfect (18–26°C). Jeddah & Asir: Complementary Seasons

Jeddah on the Red Sea coast is best October to April (similar to the Red Sea resorts). The Asir highlands - just 1 hour by flight from Jeddah - are the brilliant exception: best in summer (May to September) when the cool mountain air provides a dramatic contrast to the Gulf heat. Combining Jeddah and Asir creates a genuinely all-season Saudi itinerary.

Key Dates for Saudi Luxury Travel in 2026

Winter at Tantora Festival (AlUla): December–March

AlUla's signature cultural festival brings world-class music, art, and experiences to the Nabataean canyon. Many performances are held at Hegra itself - an extraordinary setting. Hotel availability is very limited during peak festival weeks.

Riyadh Season: October to March

Saudi Arabia's government-backed Riyadh Season calendar fills the capital with world-class entertainment, restaurant openings, and cultural events. It runs October through March and significantly enhances the Riyadh luxury travel experience.

Ramadan Considerations

In 2026, Ramadan falls approximately mid-February to mid-March. Luxury hotels continue operating fully during Ramadan - dining, spa, and experiences are available, though restricted in public areas during daylight hours. Many guests find Ramadan adds a cultural dimension that is unique and moving.

For peak-season dates (November to March at AlUla, December to February at the Red Sea), booking 3–6 months in advance is essential. Our concierge team monitors availability across all properties and can alert you to last-minute openings.

Saudi Arabia Travel Seasons - FAQ

What is the best month to visit Saudi Arabia overall?+

November is the single best month to visit Saudi Arabia overall - AlUla's season opens, Red Sea conditions are excellent, Riyadh is comfortable, and the Riyadh Season events calendar is active. It's also before the peak December–February window when accommodation is hardest to secure. October is equally good for value and availability.

Is Saudi Arabia too hot to visit in summer?+

Most of Saudi Arabia is extremely hot June to September (38–45°C+ in Riyadh, Jeddah, and the Red Sea coast). However, the Asir highlands around Abha remain at 18–28°C in summer - making them Saudi Arabia's summer escape. Luxury hotels throughout the country are fully air-conditioned and pools are delightful. Some guests specifically choose summer for lower hotel rates and fewer other visitors.

When is AlUla's peak season?+

AlUla's peak season runs November to March - this is when the Winter at Tantora festival is active, all outdoor experiences operate, and the temperatures are ideal (18–26°C days, 8–12°C nights). December and January are the most popular months and hotels fill up quickly. The shoulder months of October and April offer excellent conditions with better availability and slightly lower rates.

Can I visit Saudi Arabia during Ramadan?+

Yes - Saudi Arabia actively welcomes tourists during Ramadan. Luxury hotels operate normally, though public consumption of food and drink during daylight hours is discouraged outside of hotel premises. Iftar (the sunset meal breaking the fast) is a cultural highlight - many luxury hotels in Riyadh and Jeddah host exceptional Iftar experiences. The atmosphere in the evenings during Ramadan is vibrant and deeply memorable.

What is the best time for a combined Saudi Arabia itinerary (Red Sea + AlUla)?+

The optimal window for a combined Red Sea and AlUla itinerary is November, February, or March - when both destinations are in their prime seasons. December and January are excellent but require early booking. A typical circuit is 3–5 nights at a Red Sea resort followed by 3–4 nights in AlUla, with a domestic flight between Yanbu/KAEC airport and AlUla (ULH).
