Saudi Arabia luxury travel itinerary, Nujuma Ritz-Carlton Reserve Red Sea

Saudi Arabia Luxury Travel Itinerary: 7 & 10 Days

Two complete, day-by-day plans across the Red Sea, AlUla and Riyadh, with the best hotel for every leg and direct links to compare live prices for your dates.

Saudi Arabia is a country of extraordinary contrast, and the best luxury itineraries lean into it. In a single trip you can wake in an overwater villa above untouched coral, watch the sun rise over 2,000-year-old Nabataean tombs, and dine beneath the skyline of one of the world's fastest-changing capital cities. The three regions that anchor almost every high-end visit, the Red Sea, AlUla, and Riyadh, sit within short internal flights of each other, which makes combining them straightforward.

Below are two itineraries we recommend most often: a focused seven-day route for first-time visitors, and a fuller ten-day circuit that adds Riyadh and gives each region the time it deserves. For each leg we name the hotels worth building the trip around, all with live price comparison across Booking.com, Expedia, Hotels.com, Agoda and Trivago.

The Focused Route

7-Day Saudi Arabia Luxury Itinerary

Two regions, ocean and desert, without rushing. Ideal for a first visit or a honeymoon with limited time.

Days 1–3·Red Sea

Arrive and unwind on a private island

Fly into Red Sea International Airport (RSI) or connect via Jeddah, then transfer by seaplane or launch to your island resort. Spend three unhurried nights on the water: snorkel reefs that have never been commercially dived, take a sunset dhow ride, and let the pace drop. Nujuma and the St. Regis Red Sea are the two strongest openings, one for absolute exclusivity, one for the most complete overwater experience.

Days 4–6·AlUla

Ancient desert and canyon villas

Take the short internal flight to AlUla (roughly 1.5 to 2 hours via Riyadh or a seasonal direct service). Base yourself in a canyon villa and give the region three nights, it deserves them. Visit Hegra, Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Nabataean sister city to Petra, walk the Old Town's mud-brick lanes, and see Maraya, the world's largest mirrored building. Sunrise at the tombs and a night of stargazing are the two experiences you will remember longest.

Day 7·Riyadh or Departure

Capital finish or fly home

For a clean seven-day trip, fly home from AlUla via Riyadh or Jeddah. If your schedule allows one more night, stop in Riyadh for a palace-hotel stay, dinner in the KAFD district, and a morning at Diriyah's At-Turaif before your onward flight. This is the natural bridge into the ten-day version below.

The Full Circuit

10-Day Saudi Arabia Luxury Itinerary

Three regions, ocean, desert, and capital, with breathing room in each. The definitive way to see Saudi Arabia's luxury landscape in one trip.

Days 1–4·Red Sea

Four nights on the water

With ten days you can give the Red Sea a proper four nights rather than three. Alternate active days, guided reef dives, a marine-biology snorkel, a superyacht afternoon, with genuinely idle ones. Desert Rock Resort is worth considering here too if you want the coast without the seaplane: villas built into the Umluj rock formations, a completely different kind of drama.

Days 5–7·AlUla

Three nights in the canyon

Fly to AlUla for three nights. Beyond Hegra and the Old Town, add a hot-air balloon flight over the valley at dawn, a private Dadan and Jabal Ikmah tour, and dinner at one of the destination restaurants set among the rocks. Wellness travellers should base at Six Senses Southern Dunes; design and romance travellers at Banyan Tree AlUla.

Days 8–10·Riyadh

Capital, culture and Diriyah

Close the loop in Riyadh with three nights. Split your time between the modern city, the Kingdom Tower observation deck, the KAFD dining scene, the National Museum, and the historic heart at Diriyah, where the restored At-Turaif district and Bujairi Terrace's restaurants make an easy half-day. Fly home from King Khalid International Airport (RUH), which has the widest long-haul connectivity in the country.

Getting Around

How the Legs Connect

Internal flights make this itinerary work. The Red Sea, AlUla, and Riyadh are each served by their own airports, and hops between them run roughly 1.5 to 2 hours. Book internal legs a few weeks ahead, as capacity into AlUla in particular is limited during peak season.

Within each region, your hotel arranges transfers, seaplane or launch to the Red Sea islands, private car and guides in AlUla, and chauffeur service in Riyadh. A private driver for the day is the most comfortable way to cover the capital and Diriyah.

When to Go

Timing Your Trip

October to April is the sweet spot for the whole circuit: warm, clear water on the Red Sea and comfortable, cool desert days inland. December and January are the most sought-after and book earliest.

If you are travelling in the shoulder months, weight your days toward the Red Sea, which stays pleasant later into spring, and keep AlUla and Riyadh sightseeing to the cooler mornings and evenings. For a deeper breakdown, see our best time to visit Saudi Arabia guide.

Saudi Arabia Itinerary, FAQ

How many days do you need for a luxury trip to Saudi Arabia?+

Seven days is the practical minimum to combine two signature regions without rushing, typically the Red Sea and AlUla, with an optional night in Riyadh. Ten days is the ideal length: it lets you give the Red Sea four nights, AlUla three, and Riyadh three, covering ocean, desert, and capital culture in one trip. Anything shorter than five nights is best focused on a single destination.

What is the best order to visit the Red Sea, AlUla and Riyadh?+

Most travellers open on the Red Sea to decompress after a long-haul flight, move to AlUla for heritage and desert, then finish in Riyadh, which has the best onward connectivity for flying home. Reversing the order also works if your inbound flight lands in Riyadh. The internal legs are short: Red Sea to AlUla and AlUla to Riyadh are each roughly 1.5 to 2 hours by air.

What is the best time of year for a Saudi Arabia itinerary?+

October to April is the optimal window across all three regions. The Red Sea sits at peak conditions with warm, clear water, and AlUla and Riyadh are comfortable by day and cool at night. December and January are the most popular and should be booked three to six months ahead. Summer is very hot inland, though the Red Sea remains swimmable and quieter.

How much does a 7 to 10 day luxury Saudi Arabia itinerary cost?+

As a guide, a seven-day trip across two regions typically runs $12,000 to $22,000 per couple excluding international flights, and a ten-day trip across three regions $18,000 to $35,000, driven mostly by which Red Sea and AlUla resorts you choose. Internal flights add roughly $150 to $400 per person per leg. Rates vary by season, so it is worth comparing live prices across booking sites for your exact dates.

Do I need a visa to follow this itinerary?+

Most nationalities can apply for a Saudi tourist eVisa online in a few minutes, which permits travel throughout the Kingdom, including the Red Sea, AlUla, and Riyadh. It is a single visa for the whole trip, no regional permits are required for these destinations. Always confirm current requirements for your passport before booking.

Can I do this itinerary with children?+

Yes. The Red Sea resorts offer family villa configurations and calm, sheltered lagoons, AlUla's outdoor experiences suit older children well, and Riyadh has extensive family attractions. Fairmont The Red Sea and the larger Riyadh properties are particularly family-friendly. Villa-only island resorts such as Nujuma skew more toward couples.
