NEOM & Sindalah Island: What's Open in 2026

NEOM is Saudi Arabia's most ambitious — and most written-about — project: a $500 billion mega-region in the northwest Tabuk province, on the Red Sea coast near the Jordanian border. Across 26,500 square kilometres, NEOM encompasses multiple distinct developments including The Line (the linear city), Sindalah (an ultra-luxury island), Leyja (a canyon wellness retreat), Epiqe (a mountain ski resort), and NEOM Bay. Of these, Sindalah Island is the NEOM component most relevant to luxury travellers in 2026: a purpose-built yacht marina and beach club island in the Gulf of Aqaba, offering Red Sea access with a degree of exclusivity that even the more established southern Red Sea resorts don't match. This guide covers what's genuinely accessible now, what's coming, and how to plan a visit.

Sindalah Island — NEOM's Luxury Visitor Hub

Sindalah is a 17 km² island in the Gulf of Aqaba being developed as NEOM's first luxury-accessible destination. Phase 1 infrastructure — marina, beach clubs, and initial hospitality — is operational or coming online in 2026. The island is designed around superyacht access and exclusive beach experiences, with hotel brands being announced progressively. Access is primarily via NEOM Bay Airport (NUM) with connecting transfer, or by private yacht.

NEOM Bay (Sharma) — Gateway Hub

NEOM Bay is the main urban hub of the NEOM region, located on the mainland near the Jordanian border. NEOM Bay Airport (NUM) serves the entire region and is the gateway for most visitors. The bay area has developed rapidly with hospitality, dining, and facilities for those working on or visiting the NEOM project. It connects easily to Sindalah by water transfer.

Leyja — Canyon Wellness Retreat

Leyja is a luxury wellness resort being built into a dramatic canyon within the NEOM region — one of the more visually extraordinary settings in the entire Saudi luxury portfolio. Concept imagery shows a series of lodges suspended above a canyon with year-round running water, resembling Wadi Rum's more dramatic cousin. Opening dates are in development; expect late 2026 to 2027 for initial phases.

The Line, Epiqe & What's Still to Come

The Line (the 170 km linear city) and Epiqe (a mountain ski resort planned for Jabal al-Lawz) are long-term infrastructure projects not yet open to visitors. Tourism access to these components is expected from 2027 at the earliest. Travellers visiting NEOM now should focus on Sindalah and NEOM Bay as the confirmed luxury visitor experiences. The full NEOM vision is being delivered in phases over the next decade.

Why Visit NEOM & Sindalah in 2026

First-Mover Access to an Unprecedented Project

NEOM is the largest tourism and urban development project in human history. Visiting in 2026 means experiencing Sindalah and NEOM Bay before they become established destinations — with the access and exclusivity that comes with being genuinely early.

The Gulf of Aqaba's Coral Reefs

The waters around Sindalah and NEOM Bay are part of the Gulf of Aqaba — renowned for exceptional coral visibility and reef health. Unlike the more-visited Red Sea sites near Hurghada or Sharm el-Sheikh, this stretch of water has seen minimal tourist diving pressure and is widely regarded by marine biologists as one of the world's best dive environments.

Proximity to Jordan and Petra

NEOM's location near the Jordanian border makes it an ideal anchor for a regional luxury circuit. A NEOM + Aqaba + Petra combination — covering Saudi Arabia's most futuristic destination, Jordan's Red Sea coast, and Petra — is a 7–10 night itinerary that can be done via road or short flights.

Part of a Broader Saudi Circuit

NEOM is a natural addition to a Saudi luxury itinerary already covering Riyadh, Jeddah, AlUla, and the Red Sea resorts. It adds a genuinely futuristic dimension to a trip that already spans UNESCO heritage sites and ultra-luxury overwater villas — giving guests a vision of where one of the world's fastest-developing economies is heading.

NEOM & Sindalah — Visitor Questions

Is NEOM open to tourists in 2026?+

NEOM Bay and Sindalah Island are accessible to international visitors in 2026. NEOM Bay Airport (NUM) receives direct flights from major Saudi cities and some international routes. Sindalah's marina and initial hospitality facilities are operational or opening through 2026. The wider NEOM mega-region — including The Line and Epiqe — is under construction and not yet open to general visitors.

How do I get to Sindalah Island?+

The primary access point is NEOM Bay Airport (NUM), which has domestic connections from Riyadh, Jeddah, and other Saudi cities, plus some international routes. From NEOM Bay, Sindalah is reached by water transfer (ferry or private boat). Private yacht access directly to Sindalah's marina is the premium option for superyacht visitors. Our concierge team can arrange full logistics including airport transfers, water transport, and any required access permissions.

What does a visit to NEOM actually look like right now?+

In 2026, a typical NEOM visit centres on Sindalah Island: arriving via NEOM Bay Airport, transferring to the island by boat, and experiencing the marina, beach clubs, and initial hotel facilities. Water sports, diving, and snorkelling in the Gulf of Aqaba are highlights. NEOM Bay itself has developed hospitality and dining. Visitors can also arrange overland or helicopter access to viewpoints of The Line construction — one of the most extraordinary sights in current architecture anywhere in the world.

Should I visit NEOM or the Red Sea resorts?+

For a first Saudi visit, the established Red Sea resorts (St. Regis, Nujuma, Shebara) offer a more fully formed luxury experience. NEOM and Sindalah are ideal for return visitors, architects, urbanists, or travellers with a specific interest in experiencing what is genuinely one of the most ambitious human projects underway. The two are also easily combinable — NEOM Bay is approximately 1.5 hours north of AlUla by road, making a combined NEOM + AlUla itinerary very manageable.

Will The Line ever be open to tourists?+

The Line is planned as a fully inhabitable city rather than a tourist attraction, though NEOM has indicated future visitor experiences will be integrated. The first residential and commercial phases are expected to open from 2027–2030. Construction viewpoints and preview experiences may be available for high-profile visitors via NEOM's partners before then. This is one of the most-asked questions we receive — we monitor NEOM's announcements closely and can notify clients when visitor access is confirmed.
